Cooking time: 45 minutes
Serving size: 12-16 servings
Ingredients
- 1 package dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 cup cottage cheese, heated to lukewarm
- 1 tbsp butter (not margarine)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp instant minced onion
- 1 unbeaten egg
- 2 tsp dill seed
- 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups plain flour
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 1 1/2 or 2-quart casserole dish.
- In a small bowl, soften the yeast in warm water and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cottage cheese, butter, sugar, minced onion, dill seed, salt, and baking soda. Add the unbeaten egg and the softened yeast mixture, stirring until well blended.
- Gradually add the flour to form a stiff dough, beating well after each addition.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about one hour.
- Stir down the dough and turn it into a casserole dish. Let it rise again for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Bake the bread for 40 to 50 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the dilly casserole bread from the oven and brush the top with butter.
